It's Hiker Dan again to tell you about my latest adventure!
Today after a half day at work, I was able to take the afternoon off for some hiking - one of my favorite outdoor activities. I wanted to get some cool pictures and knew right off the bat where to go.
I jumped in the car and turned onto my favorite road: The Blue Ridge Parkway - driving across the Linn Cove Viaduct and into the Rough Ridge parking lot. Since it was a weekend only two cars filled the usually busting lot. I knew I was in for a treat with such a quiet, undisturbed afternoon.
The hike was great! It was mostly uphill with some nice climbs that helped my lungs fill with the sweet mountain air. By the time I had made it to the first rock outcropping I stopped to catch my breath and to take a few shots of the mountains that spread out before me.
After I finished I continued on the lovely boardwalk that extends a small section of the trail to preserve the plans and animals that had inhabited this mountain for years.
Once I arrived at the peak my heart was happy and light. The view was incredible and the scene complete with the cool wind blowing through my beard. The sunlight warmed my face.
I snapped a few pictures and sat for a while before continuing back down the mountain.
